At the department of technology of medicinal forms, the subject under study is the main regulator of pharmaceutical activity in higher and secondary pharmaceutical educational enterprises.
The department was organized in 1934 on the territory of the Tashkent Medical Institute under the name “Technology of Medicinal and Herbal Medicines”.
The organization of the department of the pharmacy was established under the head of a store of the chemist’s at the State Medical Institute of Tashkent named after K.I.Ruben and employees MP Freemerman and Ya. D. Kutik contributed to the organization of the department. At that time, there were only 4 employees in the department, and the department was headed by Master of Pharmacy, Associate Professor V.I. Sheblykin.
In 1941, the department expanded, it was in charge of the Doctor of Pharmacy, Professor. Z.M.Umansky. Professor Z.M.Umansky had a high scientific potential, he was one of the highly cultured and grateful mentors. At this time, the faculty of the department was comprehensively developed, which consisted of 7 people: Z.M.Umansky, Z.N.Nazirov, A.Sh.Hamzina, TKKasimova, E.A.Yudovich, N.G. Berezina and laboratory assistant L.I. Fedotov (1941-1960)
Since 1950, with the aim of increasing the scientific potential of the department, the training of young scientists from graduates of the institute through postgraduate studies was started. The first graduate students of the department were: A.Sh. Hamzina, T.T. Kasimova, I.M.Mansurkhanova.
Assistant Professor Z.Nazirov conducted research under the direction of R.L.Khazanovich on the topic: “Pharmaceutical cognostic study of the plant milkweed Zarafshansky” and in 1957 in Tartu (Estonia) defended his thesis and received the degree of Candidate of Pharmaceutical Sciences.
The first graduate student of the institute T.K Kasymova in 1960 in the city of Tartu to obtain a scientific degree Ph.D. in science defended her dissertation work on the topic: “Growing azhgon plants in the Tashkent oasis and obtaining from it medicines”.
In the same year, an employee of the department, assistant E.A. Yudovich under the supervision of R.L.Khazanovich began work on her PhD thesis “Pharmaceutical cognostic study of the Inula plant”, in 1960 she defended and was awarded the degree of Ph.D.
A.Sh. Khamzina proposed the technology of pills from hydrophobic substances under the direction of Z.M.Umansky, and in 1961 in Tbilisi she defended her dissertation for the degree of candidate of pharmaceutical sciences on the topic: “On the issue of improving the technology of pills in pharmacies.”
In 1958–1963, N.G. Khamzina and Z.M.Umansky for the first time proposed the use of a coating pan to produce pills.
I.Mansurkhanova suggested to use apricot gum in emulsions under the guidance of Professor Z.M.Umansky. In 1969 she defended her Dessertation for the degree of Ph.D. on the topic: “Preparation of some dosage forms based on the emulsion”.
In 1969, in the city of Moscow, under the direction of Professor Z.M.Umansky, the degree of Candidate of Pharmaceutical Sciences M.Kh.Islamgulov defended his thesis for on the topic: “Grinding of solid medicinal substances and determination of their dispersion in dosage forms”.
M.Kh.Islamgulov suggested a small-sized mill for grinding and mixing solid medicinal substances in pharmacy conditions. This device is used in the present.
The department conducted research on not only the dosage forms of pharmaceutical production, but also such ready dosage forms as tablets. These studies were conducted by a young employee of the department S.M.Makhkamov. S.M.Makhkamov, having conducted large scientific research on the technology of tablets, achieved great success. In 1962, he was one of the first people who defended this dessertation. By this time, the department expanded research on the technology of finished dosage forms. In 1963, the department was divided into two: “Technology of medicinal and herbal medicines” and “Technology of medicinal forms.” By this period, the teaching staff of the department increased qualitatively and quantitatively. In order to continue the training of young scientific pedagogical personnals among the graduates, Z.A. Nazarova was accepted in 1964 as an intern-researcher, L.А. Barasanova and L.P. Nikonov as graduate students.
