History of the department and its achievements
The Department of Organic and Biological Chemistry is a joint department of two departments – the Department of Organic Chemistry and the Department of Biological Chemistry.
The Department of Organic Chemistry was established in 1939 at the Tashkent State Medical Institute under the supervision of Professor Z.M. Manulkin, who headed the department from 1939 to 1949. At the time of formation, the staff of the department consisted of three employees: the head of the department, candidate of chemical sciences, associate professor Z.M. Manulkin, assistant V.L. Pizhova and the laboratory assistant.
In 1949, the Department of Organic Chemistry was merged with the Department of Biological Chemistry and was named as the Department of Organic and Biological Chemistry, D.N. Sahibov.
The Department of Biological Chemistry was created at the Tashkent State Medical Institute under the guidance of Professor N.S. Volynsky in 1937. At the time of formation, the department had five employees: the department head, professor Tsuverkalov, associate professor D.N. Sakhibov, assistants F.Kh. Solomakhina, L.Akhabibullaeva and N.I. Sinyashin).
In 1949-1956, the Department of Biological Chemistry conducted its activities as part of the Department of Organic and Biological Chemistry.
Since 1956, the Department of Organic and Biological Chemistry was divided into two departments – the Department of Organic Chemistry, which until 1969 was headed by Professor Z.M. Manulkin, and the Department of Biological Chemistry, which was headed by Associate Professor I.M. Mavlonov, later until 1971 – Professor K.G. Joffe.
Z.M. Manulkin defended his doctoral dissertation during the period of heading the Department of Organic Chemistry and was awarded the title “Honored Worker of Science of the Republic of Uzbekistan” for his dedicated work in the development of science “Organic Chemistry”.
The department of biological chemistry in 1971-1992 was headed by G. Ya. Lamm. During this period, associate professors I. Asadov and Marguba Akramovna Khoshimova worked at the department, who made a considerable contribution to the development of the department.
In 1969-1984, the department of organic chemistry was headed by associate professor, candidate of chemical sciences Karim Sadikovich Tillyaev. Over the years, the department worked as an assistant professor, candidate of chemical sciences Aleksandra Nikolaevna Tatarenko, assistant professor, candidate of chemical sciences Inoy Mirzaevich Primukhamedov, senior lecturer Turdi Latipovich Tursunbaev, assistants Ahad Shukurovich Shukurov, Lyudmila Nikolaevna Snegur, Rano Abbasovna Zaydova and E.P. Eganov, who made a significant contribution to the educational, methodological and scientific development of the department. The staff of the department prepared and introduced into the educational process textbooks “Workshop on Organic Chemistry” in Uzbek and Russian, more than 25 teaching aids and instructions.
In 1985-1993, Professor S.T. Akramov, 1993-1995 – associate professors E.A. Alimov and Z. Osmanov. From the moment of formation to this time, 2 doctoral (Z.M. Manulkin, E.A. Alimov) and 7 candidate (F.Yu. Yusupov, K.S. Tillyaev, E.A. Puchinyan, T.L. Tursunbaev, S. A. Sorokin, A. Sh. Shukurov) dissertations. It should be noted the special contribution to the development of training of the assistant professor, candidate of chemical sciences I.M. Primukhamedov, who wrote and published a number of textbooks: “Organic Chemistry” for medical schools (1987); “Organic Chemistry” for pharmaceutical institutes and pharmaceutical departments (1990); together with associate professor A.Sh. Shukurov textbook “Practical classes in organic chemistry” (1996); Together with Professor A. Makhsumov “Bioorganic chemistry”. These textbooks are the first Uzbek textbooks on organic chemistry for pharmacists, which are currently reprinted and serve as the main educational literature for students.
In 1995-2005, the Department of Organic Chemistry was headed by Professor, Doctor of Chemical Sciences Aminjon Karimov.
The department of biological chemistry in 1992-2004 was headed by professor, doctor of medical sciences Olim Obidovich Obidov. During this period, in the discipline “Biological Chemistry”, several educational and methodological guidelines and manuals in the Uzbek and Russian languages were prepared. Thanks to the efforts of Professor O.O. Obidov in the curriculum of the department was included a new discipline – “Pharmacological biochemistry.” 4 candidate dissertations were defended (N. Saprunova, G.Yu. Malikovа, M. Sanalova, A.A. Zhuraevа).
In 2005, the Department of Organic Chemistry and the Department of Biological Chemistry were reunited, the department was named the Department of Organic and Biological Chemistry, and Doctor of Chemical Sciences, Professor Aminjon Karimov was appointed the head of the department.
At the time of unification, the following professors and teachers worked at the department: A. Karimov, O.O. Obidov, associate professors M.A. Khoshimova, Mukarram Zhurabaevna Ergasheva, Zlavdun Osmonov, Ozodbek Sultonkulov, Gulchekhra Yuldashevna Malikova, Allomahon Nizomovna Maksudova, Aziza Abdinazirovna Zhuraeva, senior lecturers Shoira Zainutdinovna Isamuhamedova, Nazira Kalmakhanovna Chinibekova, assistants Mirsobir Safaev, Hilola Inoevna Primuhamedova, Munira Tokhirovna Azimova.
In 2005-2012, the faculty of the department made a significant contribution to the development of subject teaching, a number of textbooks and teaching aids were published in Uzbek and Russian: under the guidance of Professor O.O. Obidov, “Biological Chemistry” (2008), “Pharmacological biochemistry ”(2008),“ Biochemical laboratory practice ”(2010),“ Laboratory and functional diagnostics ”(2011),“ Biological chemistry ”(2012); under the guidance of Professor A. Karimov, the textbook Organic Chemistry (2006) and the textbook Practical Classes in Organic Chemistry (2006), written by Professor I.M. Primukhamedov, were supplemented and republished., as well as co-authored with a senior teacher N.K. Chinibekova published a textbook in Russian “Workshop on Organic Chemistry” (2010).
During this period, the research work of the department was carried out in collaboration with the Institute of Organoelement Compounds named after A.N. Nesmeyanova (Moscow), Tashkent Medical Academy, Institute of Plant Chemistry and Bioorganic Chemistry, Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan, as well as the Institute of Endocrinology at the Ministry of Health.
Under the guidance of Professor A. Karimov, work was carried out to obtain new physiologically active substances as a result of combining drugs with natural and bioactive polymers. Based on the results of scientific research by A.N. Musaev, A. Karimov, N. Irgashev, S. Khamidov, A. Azimov, R. Tillaev was written a monograph “Some aspects of the synthesis of medical polymers.”
Under the guidance of Professor A. Karimov, 5 candidate dissertations were defended (G.Sh. Yunusov, S. Kilichev, Fan Min Tan, H. Mirzakhidov, E.V. Pereverzeva).
The staff of the department published over 500 scientific articles, 52 copyright certificates, 2 patents, 12 textbooks, 20 teaching aids.
n 2012, the department of organic and biological chemistry was merged with the department of toxicological chemistry, the department was renamed as the department of toxicological, organic and biological chemistry. As part of this department, the Department of Organic and Biological Chemistry conducted its activities until 2018.
During this period, educational and methodological complexes and an electronic module in the disciplines of “Organic Chemistry”, “Biological Chemistry” and “Pharmacological Biochemistry” were created. A number of virtual laboratory works were prepared and implemented. In order to develop the quality of education to world standards, textbooks, teaching aids and guidelines were compiled taking into account foreign literature. In particular, Professor A. Karimov, senior teachers D. Isamukhamedova and N.K. Chinibekova compiled a textbook “Practical classes in organic chemistry” (2013), together with associate professor Z. Osmonov – teaching aids “Organic chemistry” for students of the faculty of pharmacy and industrial pharmacy in Russian and Uzbek (2016), and together with the senior teacher M.A. Tulyasheva – teaching aids in English “Traching aid fo the implementation of practical and Laboratories work for bachelors” Specialization “Pharmacy and Industrial Pnarmacy” Part I (1-8 lessons) (2017). n 2015, together with the teachers of the Academic Lyceum of the Tashkent Pharmaceutical Institute, a manual “Laboratory Workshop on Organic Chemistry” was prepared for students of the lyceum and a certificate was received for publication by the Ministry of Higher and Secondary Special Education of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
In 2018, the Department of Organic and Biological Chemistry withdrew from the Department of Toxicological Chemistry and began its independent activity under the guidance of Professor A. Karimov. From this period to the present, Professor A. Karimov has been working at the department; associate professors G.Yu. Malikova, A.N. Maksudova, F.O. Pulatova, A.A. Zhuraevа; senior teachers N.K. Chinibekova, I.Sh. Kucharova; Assistants W.H. Yakubova, Yu.R. Yakhshieva.
In 2019, under the leadership of Professor A. Karimov, in collaboration with senior teachers I.Sh. Isamuhamedova and N.K. Chinibekova compiled the textbook “Organic Chemistry” in the Uzbek language and received a certificate for publication by the Ministry of Higher and Secondary Special Education of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
For the period 2018-2019, 8 teaching aids and guidelines were published on the subjects “Organic Chemistry”, “Biological Chemistry”.
Information about the head of the department and his achievements
Karimov Aminjon was born in the city of Tashkent in 1946. In 1963 he graduated from high school, in the same year he entered the Department of Chemistry of Tashkent State University and in 1966 was transferred to Moscow State University. Lomonosov at the Faculty of Chemistry. In 1969 he received a diploma from the same university with a degree in chemistry (Sh No. 984953 from 06.24.1969).
After graduation, he first worked as a trainee-applicant at the Department of Chemistry of Tashkent State University. In 1971 he entered the graduate school of the same faculty, under the guidance of Professor U.N. Musaeva was engaged in scientific work. In 1974, he successfully defended his thesis on the topic “Peculiarities of the Radical Polymerization of Aminoalkyl Ethers of Methacrylic Acid”.
1975 to 1990 A. Karimov worked as a senior researcher, in 1980-1995 he was the head of the Laboratory of Medical Polymers in Tashkent State University.
n 1991, he received a doctorate in chemical sciences on the topic: “Features of the radical polymerization of acrylic and methacrylic esters of lupinin with antiheparin hemostatic activity.” In 1993, Karimov Aminjon was awarded the title of professor in the specialty “Chemistry”.
- Karimov from 1995 to the present works at the Tashkent Pharmaceutical Institute. In 1995-1999 he worked as the head of the department of organic chemistry, in 1999-2001 the head of the department of internal control and monitoring of the institute, in 2001-2005 the head of the department of organic chemistry, in 2005-2012 the head of the department of organic and biological chemistry. From 2012 to 2018, he worked as a professor at the Department of Toxicological, Organic and Biological Chemistry. From 2018 to the present, he is the head of the department of organic and biological chemistry. In the course of their activities, they conduct lectures and laboratory classes in the discipline “Organic Chemistry”, using methods of pedagogical and information technologies.
Professor A. Karimov, in collaboration with the faculty of the department, published textbooks on the discipline “Organic Chemistry” for students of the pharmaceutical institute (2010, 2013), a monograph on physiological active polymers (1978), and a textbook (2019).
Scientific research of A. Karimov was carried out to create physiologically active polymers based on antiheparin for use in medical practice to obtain hemostatic materials (gauze, tampons, films) used as hemostatic agents containing lupinine alkaloids.
Under the leadership of A. Karimov, 5 candidate dissertations were defended (G. Sh. Yunusov, S. Kilichev, Fan Min Tan, H. Mirzakhidov and E.B. Pereverzeva).
Currently, A. Karimov is conducting research work on the topic: “Synthesis of physiologically active substances based on the deoxyvasicinone alkaloid.” A. Karimov has published more than 300 scientific articles. The results of the research work of A. Karimov were reported at conferences and symposiums of both a republican and international scale.
Currently, Professor A. Karimov is a member of the specialized scientific council of the Institute of Physics and Polymer Chemistry in Chemical Sciences.
- Karimov in relation to himself and others is a demanding, sincere, skillful organizer, has a high culture of behavior, is responsible for every work. Among the staff of the institute is highly respected.

Information about the spiritual and educational work carried out at the department
Spiritual and educational work is carried out in accordance with the plan drawn up on the basis of the spiritual and educational work plan of the Tashkent Pharmaceutical Institute for 2019-2020.
The curators of the department regularly conduct “Curatorial and informational hours” and events dedicated to the Day of Spirituality.
The faculty of the department also conduct conversations with students living in the hostel of the institute, are interested in their living conditions.
Teachers of the department actively participate with students in competitions and events held at the institute.
On October 31, 2019, at the initiative of the Department of Organic and Biological Chemistry, the Tashkent Pharmaceutical Institute was visited by employees of the Plant Chemistry Laboratory of the Institute of Chemical Physics of Lanzhou Academy of Sciences of China – PhD, Professor John-Li Yang and Assistant Xiaobo Zhao. During the meeting, reports were delivered by Professor Jong-Li Yang on the topic “New drugs from natural products”, assistant Xiaobo Zhao “Targeted delivery and real-time tracking of natural bioactive compounds”.
Joint work of the department is carried out with school number 274 of Yunusabad district. Conversations were held on the topics: “Culture of youth behavior”, “5 initiatives put forward by the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan for the upbringing and education of youth”, “My mother tongue is my pride”.
Work is also being carried out according to the plan of cooperation between the Department of Organic and Biological Chemistry and the academic lyceum for the 2019-2020 academic year. Visits to the academic lyceum are organized and conversations are held with students
In the framework of the “Constitutional Promotion Month” dedicated to the 27th anniversary of the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan, on December 18, 2019, in the small hall of the Tashkent Pharmaceutical Institute, a meeting was held with a member of the Liberal Democratic Party, a candidate for the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan of the 145-Bodomzor constituency Fayzieva Dilorom Khusnutdinovna.
