In 1992 on March 10 as a part of the Tashkent Pharmaceutical Institute, based on the letter 89-01-176 of the Ministry of Higher and Secondary Special Education was organized the faculty “Agricultural biotechnology” where engineers-technologists were trained for chemical and pharmaceutical companies. As a result of this in 1992 for training engineers- technologists first students were admitted to the direction “ready medicinal forms and technologies of herbal remedies” under the code 25.09.03. In 1994 the biotechnology course was organized and the duty to lead the course was appointed H.M.Komilov. In 1994-1995, qualified teachers, professors were taken to work in the course and by the head of the course was made up a state educational standard that was confirmed by the authorities of officials of organizations. On the basis of this document was prepared the curriculum and sample program in all subjects. In 1995 the Biotechnology course was awarded the title of the Chair and to head the Chair based on elections was appointed professor Kh.M.Komilov. In 1999 the Chair was headed by doctor of pharmacy K.S.Mahmudzhanova. From 2000 to 2012 prof. H.M.Kamilov was the head of the Chair. From 2012 to 2014 assistant-professor of pharmacy F.H.Tuhtaev headed the Chair. Currently, the head of the Biotechnology Chair is Doctor of pharmacy X.T.Zoirova.
The following special and general professional subjects are taught in the Chair: “Special chapters of Biotechnology”, “Chemical pharmaceutical processes and devices”, “General chemical technology”, “Energy technologies”, “Technology of herbal remedies”, “Technology of biologically active substances”, “Fundamentals of Biotechnology “.
During 1994-1995, members of the Chair began to teach all above listed subjects in a specially-equipped seminary and laboratory rooms, using special textbooks and other teaching aids.
In 1996-1997 on the initiative of the head of the Chair was founded a training-industrial center as a small workshop, designed for obtaining essential oils and biological active substances from raw materials of medicinal plant.
In 1997 the first diplomas were successfully maintained in the direction of ready medicinal forms and technologies of herbal remedies. In 1999-2000 academic year the Chair changed into two-stage system and started training bachelors. Thereby the state educational standard and curriculum for bachelors in the direction “ready medicinal forms and technologies of herbal remedies” were confirmed and in 2002 began to recruit masters. Until now it was published over 60 scientific articles, more than 30 training manuals, 9 textbooks 5 of which are electronic and 6 textbooks on teaching -practical production.
There are 3 professors, 6 associate professors, 7 assistants, the head of laboratory, senior and junior technicians in the Chair. Currently, lessons are conducted by the following staff: Professor M.Hudoyberdiev, M.S.Tashmuhammedov, Sh.S.Tashmuhammedova, Doctor of pharmacy M.G.Ismailova , B.T.Salimov, B.T.Sagdullaev, assistant professors, candidates of sciences K.K. Shadmanov, H.T.Zoirova, F.O.Polatova, F.H.Tohtaev, K.T.Normurodova, M.H.Sanavova, candidate of sciences, assistant D.T.Turaeva, assistants N.А.Abzalova, Kh.А.Ubaydullaeva, S.D.Mahmudov, L.I.Alimjonova, Sh.M.Usubaeva, Sh.H.MuratovaZaveduyuschaya , also head of the laboratory and assistant S.Hadjimetova, senior laboratory technicians M.M.Rahimov and M.A.Abdurahmonova work at the Chair. In different years various teachers worked at the Chair: N.B. Egamberdiev (1996-1997), d.ph. K.S.Makhmudjonova (1998-1999), professor doctor of biology M.M.Rahimov (1994-2013), T.Nabiev (1997-1998), associate professors V.Abdullabekova (1997-1998), K.K.Shodmonov (1995-2004), G.Tohtahunova (1999-2004), A.A.Mahmudov (1998-2010), senior teachers O.Qahhorova (1996-1999), N.Yusupova (1996-1999) and assistants A.Karimov (1996-1998), G.Elboeva (1996-1998).
History and research activities of the Biotechnology Chair are closely connected with the activities of Professor Mirzaadham Mirzahakimovich Rahimov. His scientific works were devoted to the study of the mechanism of active enzymes and biocatalysis. Designed by him in 1977 theories are still considered to be advanced in science. His works were published in Uzbek, Russian, and English. Number of scientific films is over 600. Under his guidance were organized training courses “Biotechnology”, “Enzyme Engineering”, “Genetic Engineering”, “Immune biotechnology”, “Bioengineering” and others.
M.M.Rahimov‘s achievements were highly appreciated by the leaders of our country. In 2002 M.M.Rahimov was awarded the Order of Fame and in 2008 the medal “For great achievements”. In addition, Professor was awarded honorary title “the Best Teacher” at the University of California in the United States of America, also was given the diplomas of the Swiss Technical Academy as well as the Academy of Sciences of Russia and Uzbekistan. Besides, M.M.Rahimov was awarded the medal of Academy of Ukraine Palladin and medal of Mendeleev in Russia. Staff of the Chair conduct research on the technology of obtaining biological active substances, natural raw materials and elaboration of a medicine based on them. On the basis of these results the staff regularly participates in national and international conferences. The teachers of the Chair A.M.Usubbaev, F.H.Tuhtaev and R.Khalilov successfully maintained their Ph.D. thesis on the ready medicinal forms and technologies of herbal remedies direction.
Talented students are engaged in research and then every year they participate in scientific conferences with their reports and are awarded honorary prizes. The Chair directly maintain relationship in educational and research activities with the National University of Uzbekistan, Tashkent Institute of Chemical Technology, Institute of Plant Chemistry, Bioorganic Institute, Chemical and Pharmaceutical Scientific Research Institute named after A. Sultanov, as well as with the industrial enterprise JSC “Uzhimpharm”. Over the next few years under the leadership of members of the Chair there have been made more than 200 diploma projects and final qualification works. Part of these researches was conducted in laboratories, chairs and industrial workshops of above listed enterprises.
In the Chair students take practice on training familiarization, chemical and pharmaceutical processes and devices as well as energy technology of chemical processes. The practice takes place in the training center and in the following industrial organizations such as JSC “Uzhimpharm” and “Samsun-Tashkent Pharm LTD”, “Galenika”, “Radix” and LLC “Uzbiopharm”.
Lectures and laboratory classes conducted on “Biotechnology” and “Industrial pharmacy” meets all modern requirements. During the lectures and seminars are used technical means, such as overhead projector, computer, multimedia and others. They are based on the latest development and results in the field of science and technology. At the initiative of the previously worked professor, Doctor of Pharmacy H.Kamilova on “Chemical pharmaceutical processes and devices “and” Energy technologies” subjects are used modern pedagogical and information technologies and virtual software programs were created for laboratory works. In 2002, at the Biotechnology Chair was founded a direction “Technology of immune biological preparations” for Master’s and 3 students were accepted.
Masters are taught the following subjects: “Designing and equipment manufacturing”, “Industrial Microbiology”, “immune biotechnology”, “Processes and devices of Biotechnology” and “Enzyme Engineering”. In 2004, the first master’s theses were successfully upheld.
Students completing the course “Biotechnology” at the moment are the holders of different professions of pharmaceutical industry of Uzbekistan. They are: chief of tablet shop – Dj.Ayupov “Uzhimpharm” under the SJC Uzpharmsanoat, head of the ampoule shop I.Kh.
